Oceans Academy 2014

Digital Explorer are once again running their Oceans Academy - this time in October 2014.
I took part in the Academy in 2012, and it was a great experience. Search the blog for the relevant posts from the time and lots more pictures...

Teachers will join an expenses-paid two-day training activity organised by Digital Explorer and led by scientists and other oceans experts. The training is based in and around Southampton and Hamble on the south coast.
Wherever possible we will try to balance the numbers of attending Science and Geography teachers.
All costs for the weekend are covered by Digital Explorer (accommodation, food, transport, activities etc) apart from travel to and from the training session and supply of standard outdoor gear such as raincoats and wellies. All specialist equipment will be provided.
The training will include:
  • Talks and practical workshops on the carbon cycle, ocean acidification and thermohaline circulation (THC)
  • A visit to the coral reef lab at the National Oceanography Centre
  • Mudwrestling with invertebrates in the inter-tidal zone
  • Beach activities on sea-level rise
  • Workshops on implementing the Frozen Oceans and upcoming Coral Oceans resources in the classroom, plus science and geography networking
